Abstract Important organ of the human body, fundamental "machine" to the functioning of the body, the seat of the soul and feelings in certain cultural elaborations, the heart is the object of this research, focusing on scientific developments on machines called "artificial hearts". It aims to investigate the practices and the production of scientific knowledge and techniques about "artificial hearts" and non-humans organ transplants, as well as the biotechnological and biomedical concepts involved, seeking to analyze how those conceptions and practices alter the forms of material existence of the body and the very concept of human. | |
