Abstract

The present project aims to debate the problem of the phenomena known as mystical experiences in its relations with Clinical Psychology. For such, the chosen outline is the life and work of an important individual in contemporary Indian spirituality, Ramakrishna Paramahansa, whose spiritual experiences illustrate some of Freud's discussions in "Civilization and Its Discontents" (1930). We intend to write a phenomenological analysis of this mystic, through his biography written by French author Romain Rolland, one of Freud's direct interlocutors, who established the questions that would give origin to the latter's considerations regarding the "oceanic feeling". Through the studies of concepts such as ontological and psychical registers - as conceived by contemporary authors such as Gilberto Safra (2004; 2005; 2006) - we intend to question, as a critical opposition, some of the aspects of Freud's metapsychological paradigm. Through the dialogue between these different perspectives, we aim to contribute with new discussions on the topic, with the purpose of offering theoretical data for a clinical study of those issues.
