Abstract

This project aims to study the horizons of expectations, the readings of the present and representations related to the Third Reign on the last years of the monarchy on Brazil and the life of the Emperor D. Pedro II. On a similar way, it aims to study the persistency of the same idea on the first moments of the First Republic and the monarchist movement. As sources, there will be used newspapers from the chosen period, as well as works of monarchists intelectuals which idealized many different models and projects for the Third Reign, trying to understand, based on these works, the readings of their present, the future projections that those intelectuals and society built, as well as the representations made upon those projections.
