Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop a transformer differential protection relay in the real time digital simulator RTDS, based on the SEL-787 relay manufactured by Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Inc. After the development of the relay, it will be tested in together with a real SEL-787 relay allowing a comparison of the results. For this work will be studied and analyzed the real scenarios in which a protection relay faces on the field as transformer energization, saturation, external faults, external faults with CT saturation, internal faults to the protection section but external to the transformer and internal faults to the transformer as ground-faults and between coils. The electrical system under study, in the same manner as the relay, will be modeled and studied using the real time simulation tool, RTDS ". The SEL-787 protective relay will be connected to the RTDS to enable comparison of results. (AU)
