Abstract

Based on the theoretical assumptions of the Functional Discourse Grammar (Hengeveld and Mackenzie, 2008), this project aims to make a typological analysis of the grammatical expression of modality in native languages of Brazil. Its main goal is to clarify the intricate relationship established between the epistemic modal values of certainty and uncertainty and evidential values of inference and deduction. (AU)
