Abstract

Asthma is a chronic disease of high prevalence in our country, and in 2004 the fourth leading cause of hospitalization Health System (2.3% of the total), is the third leading cause of hospitalization among children and young adults. Deaths from asthma are relatively rare, however steeped in importance, given the possibility of being mostly avoided by early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Objective: To analyze trends in asthma mortality in Brazil according to the age group 0-34 years 1980 to 2010. Methods: This was an ecological study of time series of mortality from asthma. Initially, the deaths by asthma will be obtained through the Information System on Mortality from DATASUL, the Ministry of Health (SIM / DATASUL), using international codes of illness J45 and J46, between the years 1980-2010. After, the coefficients are calculated total mortality and proportional according to age group and will be analyzed trends in mortality rates for asthma by age 0-4 and 4-35 years, using linear regression models. Expected Results: Demonstrate decline in asthma mortality rate in the age group 0-4 years. Register decline of total deaths range 5-34 years. Check decreasing linear trend and constant asthma mortality from 1980 to 2010, in the age range from 0 to 4 and 5 to 35 years.
