Abstract

This scientific initiation project linked to the Center for the Study of Violence of the University of São Paulo (NEV-USP), and the research line Human Rights Monitoring, has as objective to identify and characterize the truth discourses on violence in the São Paulo written press. In order to do so, we will develop a comparative study of the press reports on the PCC attacks in 2006 and 2012, collected by the Data Bank of the NEV-USP, with a focus on articles that have factual narratives and descriptions of elements of the cases. The methodology adopted will be discourse analysis, having as basis Jürgen Habermas discourse theory and studies that develop empirical analyses having this theory as a basis. The results intend to contribute to the debate on violence and the role of informative communication in this debate.(AU)
