Abstract

This project aims to investigate the sites of sociability, social codes and practices present in the colony Aimorés Asylum, former leper colony in the city of Bauru, in the northwest of the state of São Paulo, in the period 1945-1962. Founded in 1929 to receive patients from leprosy (leprosy), the site, now called the Lauro Souza Lima, had a physical and administrative infrastructure that enabled patients to the formation of new ties, social relationships, values and practices. In addition to the investigations of the sites of sociability and practices of internal intend to investigate whether there were social distinction between them and how it manifested itself. To this end, we investigate leisure activities and entertainment held in the building named for former patients Aimorés Casino, one of the local sociability within the institution.For this, we analyzed photos of the collection of the institution and former patients, as well as testimonials and interviews of former inmates. Furthermore, it will be studied a number of other documents, recently found in one of the institution's premises, with about five thousand items, under the generic marking "Casino." From the analysis of this group of documents and testimony from former patients, you can check, and practices and preferences of its visitors entertainment, consumer profiles, ground rules and etiquette, and possible distinctions and conflicts between different groups, from these and other social practices.
