Abstract

In project of open space, creativity and personal experiences are not enough, but it is necessary to become aware of aspects revealed by its users. The urban parks are important units of space that leisure and outdoors activities, socialization and contact with nature can be provided satisfactorily if the spatial layout is suitable to the conditions of use. At this moment, conducting interviews with users becomes the main research technique to be applied in Parque do Carmo. Among the techniques of environment-behavior studies, as systematic observation and distribution of questionnaires have been already completed for the park. One of the aims of conducting interviews with users is to find a direction for explanation of the use and non-use of the open space, and then to be able to inform future projects, stimulate further research and support the teaching of architecture and urban planning.
