Abstract

This research project aims to point out and analyze the influence of Edgar Allan Poe's work on the cinema of Alfred Hitchcock. Starting from the fact that both artists stand out especially within the suspense genre, it is important to emphasize that this genre is implicated in their aesthetic projects, in the same way that such projects are articulated and communicated through the suspense genre. For this reason, it will be made an analysis of the formal aspects and of the contents that may emerge from this influence in order to highlight the similarities between their aesthetic projects, considering that Hitchcock and Poe developed their own conceptions of art making. For this, we will trace the characteristics of the suspense genre in the works of Edgar Allan Poe, considering his short stories, critical and theoretical texts, in order to verify how his works dialogue and influence the cinema of Alfred Hitchcock.
