Abstract

This study aims to understand the Reflexive Encounter proposed by Szymanski (2002) with male parents as a space of encounter that provides an opening to the constitutive otherness of the self. The question of otherness will be used as an ontological condition in the constitution of the self in the thematic of Heidegger's (1988) and Ricoeur's (1991) existential phenomenology. In this context the dimension of the encounter with the other will be questioned based on the narratives of the male parents in relation to the educational activities used with their children, produced in the realm of the Reflexive Encounter. The idea is to look for the inter-relationships of meanings that are revealed and that can be understood as relational aspects of the otherness in the constitution of the self identity. Otherness will be a building aspect of the singular subjectivities. Since this is a qualitative research phenomenology based, the path developed to obtain the parratives will be in conformity with the intervention model proposed by Szymanski (2004) and Morato (2004), assuming the concept that these encounters are based on a reflexive praxis. The analysis procedure will be guided by Ricoeur's (1978) hermeneutic phenomenology focus, seeking the meanings that emerge and constitute by each male parent in their narratives.
