Abstract

This project aims an analysis of the linguistic contacts and the possible outcomes, detected so far, between varieties of Portuguese and Kimbundu (H20) spoken in the town of Libolo, Kwanza Sul Province, Angola. This project has a start point on theoretical models designed to explain the phenomena produced by languages in contact situations, particularly the theoretical models developed by Myers-Scotton (2002, 2006) and associates. From the collection of primary data and the production of bilingual corpora, Kimbundu-Portuguese and Portuguese-Kimbundu, we try to understand how the grammars of the two languages are being affected by the contacts in this region of Africa, while we evaluate the theoretical models developed to explain the possible structural convergence, in terms of Myers-Scotton (2002), between the two language varieties in question.
