Abstract

The ocular prosthesis is a treatment option for anophthalmic patients and must present aesthetic, physical and mechanical properties. This study aims to understand the effect of a photopolymerized glaze on the color stability, hardness and roughness of acrylic resin for artificial eyes. Forty discs (10 mm diameter x 3 mm thickness) were fabricated and divided in 4 groups (n = 10): N1 Acrylic resin without photopolymerized glaze (G1); Colorless acrylic resin without photopolymerized glaze (G2); N1 Acrylic resin with photopolymerized glaze (G3); Colorless acrylic resin with photopolymerized glaze (G4). All samples will be polished sequentially with sandpapers (240, 600 and 800-grit). In G1 and G2, a sandpaper 1200-grit will be also used and finalized with diamond solution with felt disk. In G3 and G4, samples will be coated with photopolymerized glaze MegaSeal. Color stability will be evaluated with reflection spectrophotometer and calculated by the CIE L*a*b* system . The hardness (Knoop) will be measured by microhardness tester machine with a load of 25g per 10 seconds. The surface roughness will be analyzed through a profilometer, and one sample from each group, through atomic force microscopy (AFM). All tests will be performed before and after the accelerated aging, which will be done for 1008 hours in an aging chamber. Data will submitted to the test of adherence to the normal curve in order to determine if they originate or not from a normal distribution to proceed the appropriate statistical analysis.
