Abstract

Thrombosis is the leading cause of complications from vascular access and is almost always associated with the presence of stricture. In recent years, several studies have shown that angioplasty is effective and has certain advantages over conventional surgical treatment aiming to increase the patency of arteriovenous fistulas. Objectives: To evaluate the primary patency of arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA), to analyze the frequency of comorbidities related to the recurrence of stenosis in patients submitted to ATP; identify the level of stenosis in patients submitted to ATP and its duration and to evaluate the frequency of postoperative complications ATP and the main causes of failure, identify the evolution of the patient undergoing ATP according to the type and location of AVF stenosis and to evaluate the clinical/surgical patient undergoing ATP (kidney transplant, hemodialysis, and death). Methods: will be analyzed medical records of patients who underwent percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, angiography performed in the Hospital de Base, São José do Rio Preto in the period 1 January 2004 to 31 January 2013, mean follow up of 10 months (2-40 months). Will evaluate the primary patency of arteriovenous fistulas after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and its association with risk factors that may contribute to poor clinical outcomes of patients. Statistical analysis will be performed by parametric and nonparametric methods, depending on the nature of the variables involved, including analysis of variance with Tukey's test, Fisher's exact test or chi-square test, and multivariate regression. The significance level for rejection of the null hypothesis is P <0.05. (AU)
