Abstract

This project aims to further study of opportunism in the distribution sector in the Brazilian fuels started doctoral research of the applicant. At that time, the study focused on the determinants of opportunistic behavior in markets for gasoline and ethanol confined to the state of São Paulo. The present study proposes some extensions substantial understanding of opportunistic behavior advocated by the New Institutional Economics.It is proposed to expand the geographical cutout, reaching the national market with the merger transaction also diesel, not previously addressed. Following further than has already been done, this new project also aims to evaluate the impact of different institutional environments state on the opportunistic behavior of the agents resellers. We emphasize the importance of this last proposal, given the importance of the evaluation of the institutional environment in studies of NIS, a key feature of explanation, but have not yet been studied.The analysis focuses on the treatment of secondary data widely disseminated by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) and State Departments of Finance. The analysis methodology is chosen modeling logit / probit, which has already adjusted well to the treatment of these data, especially because it is binary choice model (yes or no)The expected results of the research, on the one hand, the refinement of a methodology to support treatment of qualitative data, for which there are difficulties eminent assessment and on the other, the production of scientific articles to be published in national and international good evaluation Qualis / CAPES, prioritizing a sector of public interest, even though the traditional Brazilian industrial setting, has few in-depth studies on national academic literature.
