Abstract

In the present study samples of clays are collected in the area of a property that provides the clay for a pottery in the town of Canas (SP), and aims to assess the loss of water and phase change of the mass of a clay in the firing process in the production of red pottery. The clay water loss with increasing temperature up to 750 degrees centigrade and phase shift from 900 degrees C are very important, since an influence on shrinkage (crack density and / or cracks and resistance behavior of the ceramic product. The thermal behavior of clays is therefore relevant since the industrial production of red ceramic is generally made up of micro-enterprises, family-run production process highly empirical and craftsmanship. in short, no aggregation technology in the process burning of the product.
