Abstract

Cyanocorax chrysops, known as Plush-crested jay is a species that inhabits rain forests, temperate forests, gallery forests and forests islands in open areas. It has four subspecies recognized, C. chrysops chrysops, C. c. tumumanus, C. c. diesingii and C. c. insperatus. The nominal form ranges from Bolivia, south and southeast Brazil, Paraguay, northeast Argentina and northwest Uruguay; C. c. tucumanus ranges only in northwest Argentina; C. c. diesingii occur in north Brazil (east Amazonas and west Pará) and C. c. insperatus is limited to the lower Tapajós River and Serra do Cachimbo. The purpose of this work is to review the taxonomy of Cyanocorax chrysops complex, based on vocal, morphological and morphometric analysis, in order to test the taxa validity currently recognized in the literature. For this it will be initially examined skins housed in Brazilian collections, nonetheless travels to other countries may also prove necessary. Furthermore, vocal archives housed in sound files and in kept from the proponent also will be analyzed. All data obtained will be submitted to a descriptive analysis and statistic tests with the objective of delimiting more accurately the evolutive units in this taxa. (AU)
