Abstract

Two cities with common characteristics : Lisbon and Paranaguá . Both with bordering rivers: Tejo and Itiberê . Port activities , produced by landfills for port expansion , spaces resulted by urban development and the relationship between river and city. Activities in Lisbon , we pretend to analyze the relationship between the portuguese city and Paranaguá from their ports , as present in the daily life of ancient settlements , and in the last decades of the nineteenth century were isolated , motivated by the need for new spaces and sea transport technologies .Today , we find few references that reveal the ancient urban uses and memories attached to these sites . We pretend on this research to understand how these work spaces and old activities that defined them can be considered as cultural heritage , inserted in the preservation of historic centers in their rescue from watercourses and analysis of port areas during XIX and XX centuries.
