Abstract

Natural ventilation is one of the most efficient strategies for passive thermal conditioning of buildings and their evaluation can be performed using various tools such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and tests in the wind tunnel. CFD simulations are reliable tools in the scientific field, with graphical interface that facilitates parametric studies of natural ventilation. However, the validation of their results through experimental tests , such as wind tunnel , it is essential to increase the reliability of the results . The PhD project 2011/11376-6 consists of parametric studies of air extractors and captors through CFD simulations. The objective of this research stage is to validate the simulated results of the final models through experimental tests in the wind tunnel , in order to propose a final matrix of natural ventilation through sheds by the wind and the chimney effect . The National Laboratory of Civil Engineering ( LNEC ) in Lisbon was selected to perform this step to be an important reference on studies related to natural ventilation and the vast experience that researchers of this lab have in this issue. In addition , we will use the Software VENTIL , a multizone model developed in this laboratory whose interface is accessible and allows the designer to estimate important variables to assess the natural ventilation , as the rates of air change / hour. Finally , the collaboration of LNEC researchers in the analysis of results and preparation of the final matrix will greatly enhance the conclusion of this doctor research. (AU)
