Abstract

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common form of partial epilepsy in adults, and is also the most frequent form of medicamentous refractory epileptic syndrome. A good response to surgical treatment (80-90 % of seizure control) stimulated the emergence of various resection techniques of the mesial temporal structures. However, with the data available in current literature, it is not possible to determine which technique is more selective for this treatment. The aim of this study is to compare the lesion of temporal stem white fibers in epilepsy surgery of the temporal lobe, through 3 Tesla MRI tractography. This will be a retrospective study, and the data will receive the statistical treatment that is appropriate to its nature. It is expected, with this study, through a diffusion tension analysis, to define which white matter tracts, that course by temporal stem, are interrupted in the surgical treatment of mesial TLE and what is the interruption pattern of this tracts in different surgical techniques.
