Abstract

Organic-inorganic hybrid coatings prepared by the sol-gel process are of great interest because they impart both organic and inorganic characteristics making possible the preparation of dense, hydrophobic and highly adherent coatings. As consequence, these coatings are a good alternative to replace the chromium based passivation layer generally used as corrosion protection tool. The aim of this work is to study the corrosion resistance of the hybrid coatings of siloxane-PMMA deposited by dip-coating technique on AISI SAE 1020 mild steel and aluminium alloy 6063-T5 friction stir weld (FSW). The corrosion resistance will be investigated by classical electrochemical techniques in 3.5% NaCl solution and compared to the uncoated material. The structural and morphological characterization of the films will be performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and resonance magnetic nuclear (RMN).
