Abstract

The objective of this study is to compare the microstructural characteristics of two yttria stabilized zirconia (Y-TZP) after grinding and ressintering. For this study, 70 Y-TZP zirconia bars will be obtained and divided into 2 groups: group L (LAVATM, n=35) and group Z (Zirkonzahn®, n=35). Samples will be obtained at a pre-sintered form (T1) and subjected to sintering (T2), grinding (T3) and ressintering procedures (T4). Five specimens will be used as control samples for each group that will not be ground (Subgrup D-). Twenty samples of each group will be horizontally ground (0.3 mm, subgroups D+) with diamond burs (150 ¼m) in high-speed handpiece with (subgroup I+, n = 10) or without water collant (subgroup I-, n = 10). For zirconia microstructural characterization, the samples will be analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy in the periods T1, T2, T3 (except the control group) and T4. The semi-quantitative data will be submitted to the most appropriate statistical test and the qualitative data will be discussed based on the literature to see whether the grinding as well as the ressintering procedure can change the material characteristics.
