Abstract ABSTRACTThe forestry sector has a large representation in the Brazilian economy, generating products for domestic consumption, exports, taxes, direct and indirect jobs, and contributing to the conservation and preservation of natural resources. The area occupied by forest plantations in Brazil in a total of 6,515,844 ha. The genus Eucalyptus is the most cultivated, with 4,873,952 ha planted in the country, with favorable characteristics mainly in relation to its high adaptability to environment, rapid growth and high applicability and benefits. Despite plantings may generate multiple uses there is less emphasis on non-wood forest products, such as obtaining essential oils. Over 600 species of eucalyptus have been described concerning the production and contend of essential oils, 200 species have been examined but only 20 are cited in the matter of actual commercial use. There is, therefore, an interesting space research to be conducted, towards the expansion of this last number. The essential oils are extracted from eucalyptus leaves, having few reports on the use of flowers for this purpose. However, most eucalyptus species produces flowers with a strong scent to attract pollinators and eventually may have different chemical compositions in their essential oils, which could be interesting in terms of application. It is precisely in this sense that the present research proposal aims at exploring the chemical compounds present in the essential oils of flowers of Eucalyptus species, together with their leaves. | |
