Abstract

The Xyphopenaeus kroyeri shrimp is one of the main specie negociated in Brazil and it is the third resource most explored in São Paulo state coast. For this reason this specie is at the over exploited zone. The lack of knowledge about this specie biology decreases the effect of protection methods for the natural stocks. An important fact related on strategies for the preservation of fishery stocks is the biology of the reproduction of this specie. The crustaceans hepatopancreas shows relations with substances related to reproduction. The study of the hepatopancreas is fundamental for a better management for the growing and reproduction of this animal in natural stocks. The determination of the morphological profile of the hepatopancreas at different stages of ovarian maturation is important for the compreension of which cells compose this organ and their morphological behavior during reproduction. Thus, the present research aims to describe the hepatopancreatic tubules in animals on different stages of ovarian maturation using histological and histochemical methods.
