Abstract

Urban space is structured by each society in order to reach their needs for social reproduction according to their mode of production. In capitalism cities become the main localization of production and social reproduction, the place of economic and social activities. This process results in a urban design which influence the experience of users.This relationship between urban design and the experience of users is the concern of this research. The research aims to study both the interrelation of urbaan characteristics and elements as the effect of these in the form of appropriation by users.The objects of this study are three urban neighborhoods in São Paulo and one in Mogi das Cruzes, to perform a comparative analysis of the relationship between these areas.Based on the current socio-economic context we will analyze the characteristics of urban design, the characteristics of the formation and occupation of the selected areas and ways of appropriation of these spaces by users.The instruments used to conduct the study will be bibliographic, cartographic / aerial photography and on-site research study.The results will be analyzed and studied through the report of the characteristics and uses of areas, maps of the evolution of the characteristics of urban design and graphics and diagrams presenting analysis of appropriation by users.
