Abstract

In the wake of syncretic discourses studies, the image is evidenced and can no longer be dissociated from the word. This project is linked to the doctoral research entitled In the discursive arena: an analysis of Brazilian presidential election debates, developed at UFSCar, under the guidance of Professor Vanice Maria Oliveira Sargentini. In this study, we propose to analyze the debates of presidential candidates in Brazilian elections, from 1989 to 2010, in order to understand how Brazilian contemporary political discourse is presented. In recent Brazilian presidential election campaigns (2006 and 2010 elections) there were female candidates; this fact makes us intend to analyze how the image of the female candidate is built. Thus, we request the granting of a 12-month internship at the Université de Toulouse 2, in Toulouse, France, under the supervision of Professor Marlène Coulomb-Gully, whose researches on political communication and gender will help us develop this doctorate, since this study specifically aims at dealing with the construction of the female politician's body (and the female body in politics), in the debates of presidential election campaigns. The participation in group meetings and seminars related to the field of study, the possibility of being supervised by Professor Marlène Coulomb-Gully, the contact with other professors and researchers from professor Coulomb-Gully's study laboratory will help us deepen the analysis on Brazilian electoral political discourse.
