Abstract

The main purpose of this research project is to solve a specific problem in the pulmonary airways segmentation from CT images. The candidate studied the reason why the algorithm based on fail-recovery can not segment some branches. The reason is described in the research project and is related with curved branches present in the airways. A numeric phantom will be created to facilitate the development of a specific solution to the discovered problem. It will be created a system that uses DCMTK (DICOM reader) and VTK (3D model visualizer) such that real CT images can be tested with the proposed algorithm.
