Abstract

The goal of this research is to study the demographic profile of Brazilian same-sex household couples through microdata collected from Brazilian decennial 2010 Census regarding São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro States. These states were chosen due to the fact that the two biggest Brazilian Metropolitan Areas are inside their boundaries. In order to achieve the proposed task, this research will rely on Multiple Regression and PROBIT/LOGIT models to investigate four main variables: family income, education, geographical location (metropolitan areas or not) and the existence of children in the families. These four characteristics are essential to understand Brazilian LGBT population, which until 2010 Census had only epidemiologic studies to figure in official statistics. (AU)
