Abstract Rydberg interactions have been guiding the recent researches, leading to an accelerated development of areas like quantum computation and matter-field interactions. A new technique that has been used for the detection of Rydberg atoms uses images that are the result of a direct projection of the atomic spatial distribution. This image is obtained after the ionization of the Rydberg atoms and subsequent projection onto micro-channel plates (MCP) that are coupled to a phosphor screen. We can currently capture images, but they lack the necessary spatial resolution and are only visible when using large numbers of ions (10^3~10^4). The goal of the current project is to learn how to acquire images created from only a few ions. These techniques have been successfully implemented in Prof. Raithel's research group, so a collaboration with him represents a major point of success for our project. (AU) | |
