Abstract

Clausewitz is an icon among those who studies war and strategy, considered one of the main makers of modern military thought. Your ideas are read and repetitively cited, mostly on military field. However, there is a literature gap relative to the readings of this author between Brazilian army members. Therefore, the main objective of this proposed research is to understand how the reception of Clausewitz's conceptions was made among the military belong to Brazilian Army between the years 1905 to 1975. The basic premise that guide this research project comes from the Thesis presented by Strachan (2008) that the readings about Clausewitz are selective and marked by the context (especially conflict contexts) in which your readers are inserted. To search for readings of Clausewitz between the Brazilian military, published articles in military journals and newspapers will be analyzed: A Defesa Nacional, Boletim Mensal do Estado-Maior do Exército, Revista Militar, Revista Militar Brasileira, Jornal do Commercio and O Paiz. We also propose to analyze the literature produced, this time, by military and civilians who have devoted studies to the area of strategic thinking. The specific objectives are a) infer which elements of Clausewitzian theory were more appropriate in articles of journals and newspapers, b) estimate in which contexts(1905-1919/1920-1939/1940-1959/1960-1975)Clausewitz is most often cited, c) indicate if occurs significant changes in the understanding of clausewitzians conceptions during the investigated years and d) evaluate if the military missions of instruction spread the reading of Clausewitz between the Brazilian military. To reach the objectives, this research project of qualitative intentions will be based on documental research methods, bibliographic research and speech analysis methodology. Keywords: Clausewitz; Brazilian Army; Strategic-politic Thought; Brazilian Army.
