Abstract

This project aims to analyze the acting of the Permanent Municipal Guard, created in 1831 by Diogo Antonio Feijó, the Justice Minister, as well the performance of the Mayor role, established in 1835 in the province of São Paulo, the place of analysis. Our start is the year 1834, the year when the Additional Act to the provinces won legislative autonomy and liberty of action in the area of policing. In this case, it will seek to understand the relationships province-center of the Empire, as the same as between the provincial center and other municipalities. It is our propose to insert the action of the Guard in the setting of the state building of Imperial Brazil, attending to possible collisions with other institutions and also with the population.
