Abstract

This research purposes to analyse the using of harmonic modal processes by the musician Egberto Gismonti in excerpts transcribed from the following songs: "Cego Aderaldo", "Dança das Cabeças", "Dança dos Escravos", "Raga (Festa da Construção)", "Salvador" and "Selva Amazônica". We also intend to study the Gismonti's guitaristic style, regarding to the main related techniques and how the instrument's physical construction and the related tunings relate to the already quoted compositions and his way of playing them. Lastly, considering the possible relations between modalism and folklore, and the Gismonti's approach to the last, we intend to search in the transcriptions elements from events of its nature.
