Abstract

In-Car Route Guidance and Navigation Systems (RGNS) have presented an important role in significant areas related to the economy, as transportation and tourism. Nevertheless, researches point out the use of RGNS in a moving car can interfere in the driving task. 3D maps can be extremely effective if they present the world in an egocentric reference frame. This type of representation has been largely developed by the industry, even commercial or freeware systems. Thus, this research aims to evaluate the subjective preference of a group of drivers when using 2D and 3D maps in the context of RGNS. The following stages to accomplish the work are: literature review, recruitment of drivers; preparation and validation of the environment test; evaluation of the subjective preference; data extraction and organization; analysis of the results. The analysis about the preference will be developed according to the 'map type' (2D or 3D) and of camera's tilt angle for 3D maps, to support tactical task in simple and complex maneuver, taking into account different distances from the car to the maneuver.
