Abstract

Attention is a neuropsychological function, which involves other cognitive abilities, and it is essential for learning. In the national reality, there is a shortage of standardized instruments that assess sustained auditory attention, and it is essential for children who are in school-age. The computerization of tests in healthcare enables greater speed and accuracy of the assessment and analysis of responses to obtain the final result, in relation to instruments that depend on the subjectivity of the evaluator, and thus facilitates the implementation and availability of the test to a large number of professionals. Aim: the research aims to verify the applicability and performance of children in Test of Sustained Auditory Attention Computerized Revised (SAAAT). Material and methods: The study will consist of two steps: 1) the review and the maintenance of the SAAAT software; and, 2) assessing the applicability of SAAAT and the performance of children. The maintenance of the SAAAT program will be performed by specialized personnel in software development and maintenance. The sample will consist of 180 children (aged six to eleven) of both genders. The participants will be divided into six groups, which will consist of 30 children in each age (aged six, seven, eight, nine, ten and eleven), with bilaterally normal hearing, matched as closely as possible with regard to gender. All children will be submitted to audiological screening (at frequencies of 500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz and 4000Hz), immittance, attention questionnaire and SAAAT. Assessment procedures will be conducted at the Clinic of Speech Pathology and Audiology of the institution that the research will be performed, after approval by the Ethics Committee for Research on Humans in the same institution. Should be obtained the performance of six groups sampled, as well as, comparison among them. Measurement must also be performed with normative data. (AU)
