Synthesis of ruthenium complexes a coordinated schiff bases for application in polymerization via olefin metathesis

Abstract

The catalytic reactivity of complexes of the type [ RuCl2 ( PPh3 ) x ( BS ) ] , where BS is the type Schiff Bases will be studied ¬ R 'N = CHPh , R ' = 2,6- diethylphenyl or sec - butyl , in polymerization reactions via ring-opening metathesis ( ROMP ) of norbornene (NBE ), and norbonadieno ( NBD ) . The BS will be obtained by reaction between salicylaldehyde and the corresponding amine (2.6- or sec - butylamine dietilfenilamina). The complexes are obtained by reaction of [RuCl2 ( PPh3 ) 3] and the corresponding BS . Initial polymerizations will be held at 25 and 50 ° C for 5, 30 and 60 min , to define the best reaction conditions , using [ monomer ] / [ Ru ] = 5000 ( 1 m mol of Ru in 2 mL of CHCl 3). Additional experiments will be performed with different molar ratios of [ monomer ] / [ Ru ] ( typically 1000 and 3000 ) to study the characteristics of polymers ( molar mass , morphology and DSC ). Techniques of elemental analysis (CHN), infrared, UV- Vis, NMR (; 13C, 1H 31P) will be employed, cyclic voltammetry, and Tg in SEC characterizations of the compounds, when relevant. The project will contribute to the development of new catalysts, within comparisons and planning of research studies of the Group, where the factors that influence the reactivity of ruthenium complexes as the steric and electronic effects of the ligands of type BS will be seen as ancillary the reactivity of the metal center.
