Abstract

In minerology, garnet group is composed by six silicate minerals, with general chemical formula X3Y2Si3O12. This group is usually subdivided into two subgroups, the first one called piralspites characterized by the fact the cation Y=Al, the second one called ugrandine has necessarity X=Ca. The first member of ugrandite subgroup being the grossular with formula Ca3Al2Si3O12, can be one of the piralspites. In the piralspite subgroup, for X=Mg, we have pyrope, X=Fe, almandine and X=Mn, spessartine. In the nature, rarely it is found pyrope or almandine or sperssartine with above 85% purity. Usually one finds solid solutions of the membres of the same subgroup. In the present project we selected two solid solutions. The first one called Garnet 5 is a solid solution of 79,95% of almandine, 14,28% pyrope and 3,52% spessantine, the second one called G6 with 54,45% almandine, 43,6% sperssartine and 1,2% de pyrope. The purpose is to investigate comparative behaviors of G5 and G6 concerning TL, EPR and Opt. Abs properties
