Abstract

Introduction: proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole, are widely administered and mostly effective and safer, but studies reveal that there are adverse events related to chronic use of this drug which possibly compromise the patient's safety. Objective: this study aims to identify the original studies evaluating the use of omeprazole to know the clinical outcomes (identified adverse events and treatment effectiveness). Methods: a systematic review will be conducted in PUBMED, SCOPUS, PAHO, LILACS, SCIELO, EMBASE and EBSCO databases with studies published until May 2014. The search strategy is based on the model The PRISMA Statement by the use of scientific descriptors and manual search to identify the original published studies that evaluated the efficacy and adverse events in the use of omeprazole. The following aspects will be evaluated: time of treatment, indication, adverse events, study design and after the floating reading of pre-selected studies will be identified and included another variables of interest. Method of analysis of the results. The adverse events and the effectiveness of the use of omeprezole based on the variables of interest analyzed. It's intended to know the risk factors and protection for the use of omeprazole, considering the use indication, non indicated use in the instructions (off-label) and time of treatment. (AU)
