Effects of different dosages of the avocado/soybean unsaponifiables on the progression of induced periodontitis in rats: a Micro Ct and estereometric analysis

Abstract

This study will evaluate the effect of different doses of the Avocado Soybean Unsaponifiables (ASU) on progression of the ligature-induced periodontitis in rats. Thirty-five rats will be submit induction of periodontitis by insertion of ligatures around the maxillary second molar and then will subsequently randomly allocate into 5 groups: CTR: Administration of mineral oil (SS); ASU1: Administration of saline solution at a dosage of 0.3 g/kg/day; ASU2: Administration of saline solution at a dosage of 0.6 g/kg/day; ASU3: Administration of saline solution at a dosage of 1.2 g/kg/day; ASU4: Administration of saline solution at a dosage of 2.4 g/kg/day. The drugs will be apply daily by gavage from the day of insertion of ligatures to the day of euthanasia which will be perform 15 days after the periodontitis induction. After the euthanization the maxillary samples will be remove. The analysis of bone resorption will be perform by micro CT, while the analysis of the inflammatory infiltrate will be perform through stereometry of the histological sections. The data will be statistical analyze using One-way ANOVA complemented by Tukey test or the Kruskal-Wallis complemented by the Dunn test depending on the results of normality test. All statistical tests will be apply with a confidence level set on 95% (p <0.05).
