Abstract

This study evaluated cephalometrically the changes occurred in the hard and soft-tissue facial profile after rapid maxillary expansion (RME). The sample was composed of 30 children in the mixed dentition phase with narrow maxilla and posterior crossbite, who were treated with a fixed maxillary expander with occlusal splint. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were examined at three moments: pretreatment (T1), post-RME (T2) and after 3 months of retention (T3). Cephalometric methods were used to determine possible changes in the hard and soft-tissue facial profile of the patients. Data were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Tukey's test (±=0.05).
