Abstract

The rate of postoperative complications in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is greater than in other intestinal resections for benign diseases. Considering that such complications significantly affect the quality of life of patients , prevention and management of these complications are an important factor in treating these patients . The literature shows rates ranging from 8 to 35 % for such complications and relating to various risk factors , such as low serum albumin levels , use of corticosteroids and other medications preoperatively , presence of abscesses or fistulas , time evolution of the disease and its phenotype , age , recurrence , malnutrition , duration of symptoms , weight loss . Despite these and numerous other factors , there is still controversy in the literature as to what really would be associated and related to these complications . In the present work , our main objective is analyze the rate of peri-operative complications in patients with IBD who underwent surgical treatment followed in the outpatient IBD Hospital das Clinicas, Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu , and identify the risk factors associated complications , compare complications among patients with Crohn's disease and colitis , comparing the results with data from the literature and according to the results deploy protocols to reduce these rates of complications.
