Abstract

The present study aims to identify and describe the terebelliform polychaetes from the Lizard Island Group, Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Material was collected from several localities of the Group, along a two-weeks taxonomic workshop on polychaetes, at the Lizard Island Research Station, in August 2013. In addition, material collected at the Lizard Island Group by another project (CReefs Project) was also examined at the Australian Museum. Up to this moment, 4 species of Polycirridae, 1 Telothelepodidae, 14 Terebellidae, 6 Thelepodidae and 2 Trichobranchidae have been found. The present application aims a research grant to finance the proponent's returning to the Australian Museum for three more months, between August and November 2014, to finish the identification and descriptions of the species of Terebelliformia found at the Lizard Island Group. By the end of the visit, three manuscript describinf the Terebelliformia of the Lizard Island Group will be produced, together with some other manuscript from parallel projects between the proponent and Dr. Hutchings.
