Histopatological renal study in dogs with natural Ehrlichia canis infection

Abstract

It is proposed with this essay to evaluate renal histopathology in dogs with Ehrlichia canis infection in subclinical stage without clinical signs. Ten animals will be used for control and 15 dogs with diagnosis of ehrlichiosis by indirect immunofluorescence and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from Veterinary Teaching Hospital "Governador Laudo Natel" - UNESP, Jaboticabal. The experimental protocol includes the obtaining of data related to clinical and pathological data, followed by renal biopsy performed by Tru-cut using ultrasound-guide, videolaparoscopy or laparoscopy technique. After that, renal samples will be processed in the Laboratório de Patologia Renal da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto (USP) for light microscopy, immunofluorescence and electron microscopy; renal tissue will be evaluated together of the collaboration of The Ohio State University - OH, US. In addition, CBC, serum biochemistry, urinary fractional excretion, electrophoresis of serum and urinary proteins and blood pressure will be performed. (AU)
