Abstract

In order to enable the production of 2nd Generation ethanol (cellulosic ethanol), in Brazil, it is essential to understand and optimize of the 1st Generation plants, that produce sugar, ethanol and bioelectricity from sugarcane. In this context, this fellowship is inserted in a project which aims the development of a "Virtual 1st Generation Sugarcane Plant" using a simulation platform called EMSO (Environment for Modeling, Simulation, and Optimization). This project aims at modeling of equipment costs for the construction of a models library in the EMSO software to be provided to other institutions involved in the thematic project which this work is associated. To fulfill this objective the fellow should collect data about the costs for the acquisition of equipment, to interview people for information, carry out preliminary estimates of the cost of a complete sugarcane processing mill, to refine these estimates based on costs the main equipments, to develop cost models as part of a library of EMSO, carry out economic evaluation of different scenarios and work collaboratively and synergistically with several research groups by managing and sharing large amounts of information and models generated throughout the project.
