Abstract

The main objective of the project is to analyze the tensions revealed in The Waste Land concerning the revisitation of the topic. It is intended to deal with ambiguous images such as the ones of silence and water, which can be read throughout the book as symbols of vitality and evidences of catastrophe at the same time. We propose a reading that do not consider the poem as a hermetic product, neither as a precise articulation of opposite images, but as a work in which meanings accumulate and struggle. Thus, the expectation is to achieve a more accurate understanding of the treatment of tradition in a significant moment of T.S. Eliots poetic production, linking his work with general inquiries about the modernist poetry. (AU)
