Abstract

The present work has as main objective to study some physical characteristics of composite gypsum produced with the incorporation of three different particle sizes of rubber tires. The level of incorporation of crumb rubber in the gypsum composite is 5% by mass. The different particle sizes of rubber from the retreading of tires, will be called thin (# 0.075 mm), medium (# 1.19 mm) and coarse (# 2.38 mm). The experimental program initially provides for the implementation of tests for consistency in the composite gypsum fresh, subsequently, with the composite of gypsum in the hardened state, will run on specimens testing of tensile strength in bending, surface mass density, surface hardness and water absorption. After completion of the experimental program the main influences incorporating three different particle sizes of tire rubber composites in gypsum produced can be observed. Therefore, the aim of this study may contribute to the waste tire retreading cease to be an environmental problem, and start to be more a source of alternative material to be used in construction.
