Abstract

Due to population migrations, Chagas disease, classically considered a rural disease, went on to achieve urban centers where a large portion of the population is affected, mainly in Latin America. In spite of Chagas disease have been discovered over ten decades, various aspects of their control, still present challenging. Corresponding to the chemotherapeutic Trypanosoma cruzi, have low efficacy and high toxicity with emphasis on the chronic phase of Chagas disease. Plant species contains a rich source of substances with trypanocidal activity, which makes the research in the area of natural product one of the promising directions in the search for effective drugs for prevention and treatment of disease. A -(-) hinokinin, dibenzilbutirolactônica lignan, displays significant trypanocidal activity in vivo or in vitro, is obtained by partial synthesis of cubebin, showing activity beyond the activity, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antimutagenic and antimicrobial. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of cytotoxic and trypanocidal activity on trypomastigotes and amastigotes of the substance (-)-6,6'-dinitrohinoquinina obtained from (-)-hinokinin, which displays antischistosomal activity, but few studies were made regarding the trypanocidal activity .
