Abstract

This post-doctoral project has as its main goal to study the phenomenology of scalar sectors beyond the Standard Model (SM). With the recent discovery of what apparently is the Higgs boson, so far in agreement with the SM scalar sector, it is possible to ask whether there is room for effects beyond the SM in the phenomenology of the discovered boson, as well as also the possibility that there might be additional states, not necessarily associated with spontaneous symmetry breaking. In this project we will study the effective field theory description and its phenomenology, the model-building of ultra-violet completions, and finally the possible connection with dark matter models of the Higgs portal type.
