Abstract

Several studies suggest that a considerable number of pathologies cause changes in electrocardiogram or blood pressure. For example, atrial fibrillation affects predominantly the electrocardiogram, while hypertension manifests by elevated blood pressure. Therefore, the simultaneous analysis of ECG and blood pressure signals has a great potential for the detection of these diseases. In this project, we propose to investigate the relationship between the electrocardiography and blood pressure signals, exploiting the simultaneous use of parameters derived from these signals in the detection of hypertension and atrial fibrillation. To achieve this goal, files from the third version of the MIMIC II database, from Physio Bank, will be selected. Cycles of ECG signals and blood pressure will be isolated and their geometric and spectral attributes will be used in the detection of pathologies.
