Abstract The keloid is the exuberant form of the wound healing process and is developed only in humans, and is more common in tropical countries. Although there are no statistics on this subject, is common in Brazil probably due to the tropical climate and the intense mixing of the population. At all stages of wound healing, growth factors and cytokines play a particularly important role in the interaction with cellular receptors during the inflammatory process. Therefore, Interleukin- 1beta, interleukin-6, interleukin -10, tumor necrosis factor alpha and growth factor transforming beta1 cytokines were chosen in order to confirm expression of the respective genes in keloid tissue samples. The possibility of using the Western blot method in patients with keloids, compared to the control group, in order to build a profile of proteins produced in each group of patients was drawn. This method was chosen for its technical advantages and because the material is directly obtained from the digested tissue. | |
