Abstract

This paper analyzes the landscape design of the central squares in the city of Jahu, built between the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, trying to detect the possible influences of landscape architects who worked in Rio de Janeiro, city of São Paulo and others cities in the hinterland of São Paulo State, as Glaziou, John Dierberger, among others, and the impact they had on the landscape and the sociability of the city of São Paulo at the time of its implementation. The city's economic development during the coffee period reflected in public policy and social change and, therefore, a greater investment in beautifying the city that resulted in several landscape and urban projects. To demonstrate the impact of these changes in jahuense public space over time and their socio-cultural implications, the research will make use of a survey and analysis of historical facts, the soles of the projects of the central gardens (if they exist) and old maps city Jahu (nineteenth and twentieth centuries), old photos, newspapers of the first half of the twentieth century and other documents present in the Municipal Historical Archives, interviews with the population, and current photographic survey in order to verify the changes suffered by these public spaces over time.
